Eraser 6 is a complete mess. I've used it on numerous computers, numerous different versions of windows, every version of 6xx has proven to be nothing but unreliable and just plain bad. I just shake my head at how they let something that used to be so good go to such a waste. In before Joel says...

So I know the Secure Erase Move is not in the 6.x version yet and that's fine. But I'm curious as to what happens during a normal move operation. Why is the Secure Move "Secure" compared to moving one file from lets say from your hard drive to a thumb stick without secure move.

Yup, that has always been my experience as well. Seems to not matter what im erasing whether its in use or not Eraser leaves folders with random names behind. Despite this build being called "stable" it has a lot of bugs that are quite annoying.

I have just started using the new stable Eraser build and when I view the task log on individual files erased there is nothing there. Also where is the more detailed window that shows how much information has been written over / left and time to completion ?

Wait until the new "stable" version is out which Joel says will be later this month. I would use 5.8 for now as It works fine on windows 7. Joel has a special definition for what "stable" means.

I'm glad that 5.8 does a good job on windows 7. Version 6 also did not erase for me...when I managed to actually get it to run without crashing. It makes me nervous that version 6 was billed as "stable" when it was the polar opposite.

I'm forced to use version 5.8 because version 6 does not work at all. Does it properly erase or not ? Nothing on the website indicates this is an 'unsupported' configuration can you elaborate on that.

I have tried Eraser 6.0.6.1376 on windows xp 32bit aswell as windows 7 home premium 32bit and they both crash. I couldn't even get it to install on windows xp. I got it to install on windows 7 however when i try to erase anything it crashes right after the bubble pops up and says "new task added".
