    "Erase unused Space"

That's a rather long-winded way of deleting a single file. Instead of "erasing unused space" to delete a file, just point at the file itself and right-click, then click on "Erase". If you have already sent it to the trash (Recycle Bin), then right click on Recycle Bin and do the same operation...

    Still shows 65.8 MB ... plz !!!

If you want to be sure of a proper wipe, use DBAN rather than Eraser. But make sure you have a disk that will boot the computer and then reformat the hard drive (or you know how to do it yourself). But be prepared to have an unworkable compter if you use DBAN, unless you know you can reinstall /...

    Still shows 65.8 MB ... plz !!!

yeah, I would consider that 3 times erasing of 1 pass is the same (or at least as effective) as 1 time erasing with 3 passes. The only difference would appear to be that in the 1 time erasing with 3 passes, the program runs from the first sector to the last only the once but performs 3 wipes on...

    Question about "blanking" during DBAN

when the DBAN program is running, and it is in the part of the program that "blanks" the hard drive, does it do so in a similar way to Eraser, eg by leaving a multitude of files, all sized 0kb, and with similar names (ie a sring of zeros, then a numerical sequence at the end) or does it truly...

    Still shows 65.8 MB ... plz !!!

files with those names are definately the files left behind by eraser. When you do a wipe of free space, it doesn't do so by creating one big file, it creates a multitude of smaller files, which are then wiped. Effectively eraser wipes free space by filling it with files. Hence you end up with...

    Quick Question

I would say so, it's still being produced, according to: http://www.samsung.com/Products/HardDis ... V0802N.htm and I doubt many 80GB HDD are usually more than 4 years old anyway, which is what many people appear to class as "old".

    Quick Question

for me personally I once cleaned a HD with 12 passes / wipes using PRNG, though with only the last pass verified. In itself this is total overkill, but I wasn't in any rush to have to finish the job. You could do that WITH each pass verified, but you may be talking quite a few hours. With my...

    Usage without installation ?

Indeed. The OP should consider his useage of the internet at work that makes him wish to use Eraser. The simple thing is, at work, don't do something that you would wish to erase...

Will My MSWord and Excel Files be Erased?

The files could still be recoverable. If you want to give away your computer then a better option, if possible, is to wipe the hard drive using the DBAN program. Of course this means you need to be able to reinstall the Operating System (Windows XP etc), so for that you'd need the...

    Context Menu

Out of interest, is there any way of the user fixing this? ie, can the user change the context menu entries (ie the words themselves, or lack of words in this case!)? I'd have thought it could be a simple registry entry change?

    Defrag and erase?

If a drive needs defragmenting I usually run Eraser, then defragment then run Eraser again.

Can I Remove Previous PC Owners 100%?

If you have the Windows installation disk, I would suggest using DBAN to wipe the hard drive. The default wipe is sufficient for most people. Then reformat, reinstall Windows etc. Whenever I've done a reinstall of the OS I always use DBAN to wipe the hard drive first. It gets rid of everything...

I think this is a rather serious bug

I have had this problem before and it is nothing to do with Eraser as far as I can see. Instead it appears to be a problem with Windows XP. It's just co-incidence that you used Eraser to delete the files in the recycle bin. I too have ended up with the file names and each file showing a file...

    Help Understanding What to Erase

Re: One More Question If you can, do a complete zap of the entire computer using DBAN, then your computer will be as safe and secure as most people will need it to be (though of course you will need to reinstall the OS, but it is the recommended thing to do). Otherwise, I wouldn't worry about...

Simple guide to deleting internet content with Eraser!!

Yeah, I agree too. If you're gonna give away the computer, use DBAN. It will save you worrying about useage tracks and just about everything else!

Simple guide to deleting internet content with Eraser!!

By the way, the answer to your question: about logging out of a site before closing down the computer - if you use IE then it will leave details of the site you have visited and logged into in various places - temp internet files, the matching index.dat file, cookies, cookies index.dat, history...

Simple guide to deleting internet content with Eraser!!

wouldn't it be easier to just not use the internet! I think you're worrying too much - the advice in this thread is more than sufficient to put any worries to rest. Use Mozilla Firefox, not Internet Explorer then you can set up Eraser to delete cookies etc without any worries. Or even set up...

Download to New Comp, Then Delete

I think you mean DBAN (which wipes everything on the hard drive) rather than Eraser (which wipes the free space but leaves the OS intact). DBAN is bundled with Eraser but is also available to download as a stand alone program. 1. the DBAN program will delete EVERYTHING from the hard drive, if...

Wiped File Names Still Visible - Is This Right?

I've tried it again - this time it wiped everything in free space (though it seems to leave more of its own temp files afterwards than Eraser does, and in different directories too). Perhaps I overlooked something last time around, though I did try a different Quick Erase wipe this time. As...
