Now it would be great if the website could reflect the new release and also have a note stating not to use the 5.8 or 5.81 versions of the program for those people who don't bother with the forums.
Portable Eraser
The ability to install eraser on a memory key. Either similar set up to the portableApps "standard" or the TrueCrypt traveler disk mode
With regards the feature list, have you ever considered setting up a Trac server for eraser?
It would possibly help improve the working of the project. Allowing for centralised bug reports and assigning of tickets, time lines, feature requests etc.
A couple of live examples can be seen...
Thanks Garrett, is there any place where we can get a list of planned features?
One other possible feature for the list. It would be great to be able to specify the wipe pattern on a per scheduled task basis
ie:
Monday: wipe c: with 1 pass pseudo random
Friday: wipe c: with 35 pass...
Being a big fan of eraser I would like to see it progress. While it is almost complete for the purpose it was intended (erasing files) there are a few things I'm sure could be added.
Personally I would rather see it shy away from becoming a system clean up tool like ccleaner, but giving...
Now that the final version of 5.8 has been released I thought it might be an idea to start a thread where we can list bug that are in it (and in certain cases pointed out that they were in beta versions)
- Eraser key shortcuts conflict with default windows ones.
In Windows Explorer...
No SSDeep will still be able to get a matching hash regardless of how much you take at the beginning and end, the middle will still be intact and that is what will be used to get a matching hash.
Listen to the podcast I linked to and Jesse explains how to defeat it his ssdeep hashing......
Jesse Kornblum has just release SSDeep which is a fuzzy hashing tool. unlike normal hacking tools (such as md5sum, md5deep) ssdeep allows an investigator to compare portions of a file with a known good file hash.
With the way ultra quick erase works, just deleting the first and last 2k of...
DBan will allow you to pick what drives or partitions you wish to erase. By default, it requires user interaction/choices before it will wipe anything.
The best option would be, use dban to wipe the drive you want, then re-install XP
Hi I was wondering how I can use the latest DBAN beta with GRUB as said at the FAQ on the main homepage.
I have 50mb on the boot partition where grub is located. What file am I supposed to put on that partition and what do I write in the the menu.lst file to actually be able to start DBAN.
Some of you might be interested to listen to the 10th June episode of Cyberspeak in which the guys mention DBan and Eraser

Spy1, yes it is a Unix only tool at the moment. It basically allows you to securely delete files as well as securely wipe RAM, swap and free disk space.
THC are a well respected Security/Hacker research group, I think you may be confusing the term hacker that they use with the general FUD...
Just heard an interesting anecdote while listening to a Jesse Kornblum interview on Cyberspeak. The interview was about recovering data from ram in which they were able to extract binaries of apps that were run and once extracted they ran like to original. Interestingly they mentioned that...
You can do it via Eraser. Just create a new Scheduled task point it at the index.dat and set it to wipe every Reboot.
You'll need to create a task for each index.dat that you want to wipe
Data can also be sorted in RAM temporarily. As it is volatile rebooting your PC will clear it. But note that as long as your machine is running Ram can store information such as passwords to programs
