A Anonymous Guest Jan 15, 2005 #1 Is DBAN using Direct Disc Access to wipe the harddisk or is it using the systems BIOS? Thanxs.
D dajhorn Member Jan 16, 2005 #2 DBAN uses DMA to access the disk. It is normal for throughput to decrease slowly during the wipe. If throughput drops rapidly, then DBAN changed to PIO mode because there was a DMA fault. BIOS calls are used to load DBAN from the boot media, but not afterwards.
