Can I directly open MBOX files in Apple Mail?

Yes, you can open MBOX files in Apple Mail, but not by simply double-clicking them. Apple Mail doesn’t open MBOX files directly like regular files—you need to import them.
To do this, go to File → Import Mailboxes, select Files in MBOX format, and choose your MBOX file. Apple Mail will then load the emails into a new folder, where you can view and manage them easily.
From experience, this process works smoothly for most MBOX files. However, if the file is large or contains multiple mailboxes, the import may take some time or occasionally miss minor details.
In such cases, the BLR MBOX Converter Tool can help handle the data more efficiently. And if you need flexibility for other platforms, using an mbox to pst converter can also be useful.
So yes, MBOX files can be opened in Apple Mail—but only through the import feature, not directly.
