does erasing quarantine files get rid of the virus\ad\whats?

GOT swags of old fragmented files on oldish Windows-ME system.

Yes it does, I used to just delete them which just puts them in the HDs freespace or if the application lets me..put them in the recycle bin then delete them. Now I use Eraser, I use the "Explorer" feature to navigate to the Quarantine file click select all and erase and poof whatever file..virus or dialer or keylogger is gone for good. I now go into my anti-virus quarantine folder and delete the contents.
