Erase a usb key ?

Hi,
I read somewhere that on a flash drive (such a usb key) when you erase a file, it is really gone... no need to overwrite anything.
Is that true ?
 
No, it's not true. USB keys use a FAT file system and deleted files are merely tagged as such and hence recoverable with the right software.

You must overwrite, however with CD RWs all you have to do is perform a 'full format' and you're set :)
