Erase Unused Space Failing

Installed eraser on Vista laptop - erases files OK and erased unused space fine the first time I carried out this task. However, ever since that first time, erasing unused space fails - for several minutes eraser states that it is searching and then I get a failure message with nothing having been overwritten together with the following eraser report:
1 Error: Erasing the free space of a drive requires elevation
2 Error: Erasing the free space of a drive requires elevation
3 Error: Failed to erase files names from drive C:\, don't know why exactly
I have tried re-installing but same effect. Otherwise computer works fine.
