Error Code 1

I read the FAQ and many posts, but I didn't see an explanation of what "error code 1" means. I ran dban and received error code 1: verify errors: 1021. Also, what is "blanking." Thanks.

I ran dban and received error code 1: verify errors: 1021.

This means that DBAN did not read in what it wrote out to the media. It indicates bad hardware.

Also, what is "blanking." Thanks.

The blanking pass fills the media with zeroes, which is how you would get a new disk from the factory.
