Feature Suggestion: Resume actions after stopping them

I recently erased 40GB of unused space over USB and PCMCIA. That takes some time. So it would be great, if it will be possible to shutdown the computer in between. The erase process should continue where it was stopped.

Or is ist already like this? Did not read about it.
