If you’re moving emails from Zimbra to Mozilla Thunderbird, you can’t import TGZ files directly because Thunderbird only supports MBOX format. So first, you’ll need to convert your Zimbra TGZ backups into MBOX before importing them.
Manual Way (Not Recommended for Large Data)
There’s no direct manual import from TGZ to Thunderbird. The only workaround is:

To save time and avoid server dependency, I used Cigati Zimbra Mail Converter to convert TGZ files straight into MBOX format that Thunderbird can import.
