How to use DBAN to erase an External Hard Drive?

I wanted to ask if its possible and if so, how to to use DBAN or Eraser 5.7 to thorougly erase everything on an external hard drive (which is connected to the desktop computer using an USB port). Greatly apprecciate the help!

You can do this with Eraser.

DBAN will not have drivers for USB or Firewire (IEEE1394) devices until the dban-1.1.0 release or later.
