Seems to hang when erasing two hard disks

I'm trying to nuke two hard disks at the same time. One is 80 GB the other is 60 GB. Both are Western Digital.

The program completed and reported success on the smaller drive but seems to have hung up on the larger drive. It is reporting 88.89% complete and says it is blanking but the Runtime clock has been frozen for the past 20 minutes or so and no other statistics are updating.

Any suggestions?

First, check the SMART log on the hard disk, perhaps with a program from the vendor.

Second, run Memtest86 on the computer: http://www.memtest86.com/

One of these diagnostics will probably report a failure.

Well, thanks for the reply. I went ahead and reinstalled the operating system as Dban got all the way to the blanking stage before it stopped (I had it set for a thorough DoD wipe) and I felt that the disk was probably wiped clean already. I am preparing this computer for a family member and wanted it as clean as possible. It seems to be working fine.

Thanks for creating this utility -- I found it useful, even with this hiccup.
