This forum and sourceforge forum

I notice that there are now two forums simultaneously going on - this one and the one on sourceforge (sourceforge.com/projects/eraser). Would it make sense to have it all in one place? While they are both very small, it would be pretty easy to combine them... if they each grow seperately, it could get to be a lot of work to bring them together.

I did notice that the sourceforge one seems to be neglected quite a bit... but then again, this is a volunteer project, so that sort of thing happens quite often.

BTW, I dont know if you can set the defaults on the sourceforge eraser forums. Right now, they are set to only show unresolved items, which means a lot of people may not see the valuable information you wrote contained in the resolved items. Each user can manually choose to look at resolved items, but I bet most people dont realize that they are only looking at a partial listing by default.

Thanks for your efforts in supporting eraser... its a great little compact tool that actually gets the job done without a bunch of nonsense getting in the way! I wish you success in maintaining it in that tradition.

Yes, it would. I disabled some of the unused features from the Sourceforge project page, including the forum.

I just checked it out... yes you did!

But you didnt copy any of the info here!!! Oh no! I hope it isnt all lost! There was some really great info there both from some users and from garrett.

Like one I remember: some sort of bug that a file wouldnt get erased if it had an ascii 255 in the filename. Im not sure if that one got fixed yet or not.

If the info isnt all lost, is it possible to copy it to this forum?

Glad to see you are still around, Sami! Hey... wheres Eraser for Linux? :)

Sorry, I dont think there is an easy way to copy SF forum postings here. And if you want to make sure a bug report reaches Garrett, maybe you should send an email instead?

Eraser cannot be easily ported to Linux, but Im sure there are plenty of decent alternatives out there. Or better yet, use encryption.

I decided against the forum on sourceforge as I wanted to concentrate all our support onto one website.

Wipe is a good tool remember it is included in Dariks boot and Nuke.

Are all the posts from the sourceforge forum still technically there (just invisible due to the feature being disabled)? If so, I can cut and paste the important ones over here for you guys. If I recall, there were 5 or 6 pretty important ones. (Like that one about not erasing files with ascii 255 in the filename - was that fixed already?)

As far as bug reporting goes - whats the preferred method, post them here or send them via email? It seems that if they are posted here it would benefit everyone, and they wont get lost.

BTW, I visited sourceforge today, and accidentally spelled the url for it slightly wrong. The porn site I received didnt have any mention of eraser, but did seem to have quite a bit of information on wiping. Yuck. [:0]

Actually, I was just teasing you. :) [:I] Your old site had mentioned that you were handing off Eraser because you were going to be working entirely in Linux. So I thought an Eraser for Linux would be a natural for you :) [:)]

Great idea! And your forum is WAY nicer than the sourceforge one. [8)]
