tivo hard drive

I have a 160gb hard drive I pulled out of a tivo unit. I tried to format it using the xp install disk but it only sees 9 mb and will on format 9 mb. I used dban and it did the same thing. It wiped 9 mb. I used every possible combination on dban but I still can only access 9 mb. How do I get to the rest of it.
 
It is possible the hard drive is locked to the Tivo unit. Some OEMs do that to ensure that their devices are not broken up and sold at higher prices.

I've not used such a device and that's all I can think of for the moment, unfortunately.
