I always get verification errors with dban 1.0.2. Here's a log excerpt:

[2004/02/01 12:50:34] dwipe: notice: Blanking device '/dev/ide/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/disc'.
[2004/02/01 12:54:52] dwipe: notice: Verifying that '/dev/ide/host0/bus0/target0/un0/disc' is emtpy.
[2004/02/01 12:59:06] dwipe: notice: Verified that '/dev/ide/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/disc' is emtpy.
[2004/02/01 12:59:06] dwipe: notice: Blanked device '/dev/ide/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/disc'.
[2004/02/01 12:59:06] dwipe: error: 33 verification errors on device '/dev/ide/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/disc'.
[2004/02/01 12:59:09] dwipe: notice: Program finished.
...
[2004/03/01 12:59:09] dban: DBAN finished with non-fatal errors. The disks were not properly wiped, or there were verification errors.

Method was dod.
What do I make out of this? Must I assume that the wiping failed? I wiped around 10 disks lately, and every single run showed 10 to 40 verification errors. Everything else looks fine, also the disks seem to be empty.

Thx in advance, nemo

Verification errors indicate bad disks. Get diagnostic software from the hardware manufacturer and check the SMART codes.

If you are using the same computer to wipe several disks, then verification errors may indicate bad memory or bad IDE cables.

Always run http://www.memtest86.com/ on your equipment.
