What happens if my PST files exceed the size limit (ANSI 2GB / Unicode 20GB–50GB) after merging?

If your PST files are too big after merging, you could have big problems depending on whether the file is in ANSI format (2GB limit) or Unicode format (20GB–50GB depending on Outlook version).
  • ANSI PST (2GB limit): If the file goes over the limit, it can get corrupt or impossible to open, and Outlook won't be able to open it.
  • Unicode PST (20GB–50GB): This format lets you store a lot more data, but if the file is too big, it can cause problems including slow searches, delays in sending and receiving, and even corruption hazards.
It's best to split up huge PSTs after merging to avoid this. You can also use a tool like Softaken Merge PST Tool for combining several PSTs into one file and then choose how big the file should be by choosing merging options like folders, contacts, calendars, and so on.
