Why do I Get Errors when Importing large PST files into Lotus Notes manually?

This occurs since Outlook PST files and Lotus Notes NSF files are two different formats. Lotus Notes does not natively support PST files, so when you manually try to transfer the emails (especially if your PST file is large), there is a good chance you run into errors, missing emails, or very slow transfer.

This is a great way to manually move the emails from your PST file to Lotus Notes, and here is an easy step-by-step manual process:
  • Install both Outlook and Lotus Notes:
First step is to make sure that both applications (Outlook and Lotus Notes) installed on your computer.
Open the PST File in Outlook:
  • Open Outlook.
Then go to File > Open & Export > Open Outlook Data File.
After that, you will load your (PST file, and you can see all of your old emails).
  • Export Email by Email:
Using your mouse, drag emails from Outlook, to a folder on your computer and save email as a .EML file type. You would have to do this email by email.
  • Import into Lotus Notes:
Open Lotus Notes.
Drag the .EML files you saved in the previous step into a folder in the Lotus Notes program.

Reasons You May Find This Process Hard:

Incredibly Slow: Moving emails one by one takes forever when you are working with large PSTs.
Danger of Data Loss: You may lose the attachments, calendars, or even an entire email!
Prone to Errors: Larger PST files will freeze or give import errors more often than not.
Not for Businesses: There is really no way to honestly manage large mailboxes this way.
