    Freespace Erase On Windows Me

At the end of the free space wipe all the previous System Restore points are removed when Eraser has almost filled the hard disk up with temporary files and the "Low disk space check" "balloon tip" shows this on XP. I would suggest on XP (not sure if this feature is on ME) removing all but the...

Can't access files to erase them

I just tried using Eraser by ending explorer.exe from the Task Manager but it did not work. (All the buttons were grayed out.) I don't think it's that big of a deal, I still think using Eraser is lot better than installing Norton on my PC!!

    New version

I have been using Eraser with XP Service Pack 2 RC1 for a while now with no problems at all. Erasing free space and the Recycle Bin (Yes! 35-passes) causes no errors. I also donated to Eraser since if you use it often you should pay for it. (It's not that much!!)

Can't access files to erase them

I would try opening Eraser (keep it on the Desktop without minimizing it) and then open the Task Manager and "End Process" on explorer.exe. Eraser should now be able to remove anything from your PC I think. Anyone ever try it? (Also, make sure you reboot or Log Off and back before doing this in...

    Erasing files on a CD

I believe Eraser was designed to remove magnetic data only. As far as installing it on a new PC I would do it!! (What a great way to keep it clean from now on.) The best way to remove data from your CD is to use fire and gasoline. (Sorry, just being funny.)

    Windows swap file settings.

The default settings of the Windows page file in Windows 98 is "Let Windows Manage My Virtual Memory." But since Windows XP came out it has been known among tweakers to set the the minimum and maximum values of the page file. In fact, the default setting of the page file in Windows XP is set...

    How long does it take?

I have a 2 Western Digital 80 GB, 8 MB buffer hard drives, a Pentium 4 (2.0 GHz) with a SiS 650 chipset and it takes around 5 1/2 hours using the DOD method. The wipe does both drives at the same time. But I must use Boot and Nuke v. 1.0.2. (The older version did not work that fast.)

    using a floppy?

Boot and Nuke will erase your whole hard drive and all it's data. If you want to keep Windows installed on your PC download and install Eraser. Delete all your Temp, Temporary Interent Files, Cookies, History folders, and then restart your PC. Then run Scan Disk or Check Disk and use Eraser to...

SiS 650 chipset (Boot & Nuke & hard drive life)

Boot and Nuke v1.0.2 is working great with the SiS 650 chipset. I'm at 95% at just over 5 1/2 hours doing a 7-pass wipe on my both of my identical Western Digital 80 GB hard drives with a 8 MB buffer. Thanks for the fix guys!! As far as what to do when a wipe takes too long--> most of the time I...

SiS 650 chipset (Boot & Nuke & hard drive life)

I tired to wipe my Western Digital hard drive with Boot and Nuke v1.0.1 using a single a pass. I have a SiS 650 chipset and it took so long (over 10 hours w/o being 30% done) that I had to shut off the PC and abort the attempt. Does stopping the wipe like this harm the hard drive? And will...

I want to erase my whole HD (including OS)...some questions

Also, try Defrag in the Safe Mode if it keeps starting over and Defrag won't complete. To get into the Safe Mode restart Windows and keep pressing F5 over and over. Run a Standard Scan Disk, then Defrag and then restart your PC. In the Safe Mode there are no drivers or other programs in memory...

    Erasing pictures

When your computer is defragmented data is scattered all over the disc. If you defragment your hard drive before using Eraser you could overwrite some of these pictures with Windows files or other software files in your copy of Windows. (Not the best way to remove them as far as security goes.)...

    Remove index.dat w/ WinClean!!

I don't know why everyone, but sometimes the WinClean script file does not work right and I have to remove it and replace it with another. OK? It would be nice if a person came up with a program that could remove all the Temporary Interent Files, Cookies, History and Temp files from ALL the User...

    Remove index.dat w/ WinClean!!

I have been using WinClean to remove my Temporary Internet Files, Cookies, History, and Temp folders on my XP computer. It is a simple batch file. You click it and then reboot and it removes the old ones and Windows creates new ones. You will see the command window pop up for a second or two...

    Upgrading Eraser's Boot and Nuke

I downloaded and installed Eraser on 9/21/03. Would I be able to remove Boot and Nuke v1.01 and install v1.02? How do I know if Eraser would have v1.02 now? That way I could uninstall Eraser 5.7 and download it again and reinstall it to upgrade Boot and Nuke. Thanks!!

    Remove Erase Recycle Bin feature

Could you add an option in Eraser to uncheck the feature "Erase Recycle Bin" from the right-click option of the Recycle Bin? I find it's in the way so I am going into my Recycle Bin and clicking "Empty the Recycle Bin" instead of right-clicking and selecting "Empty Recycle Bin." I never use the...

Restore Point missing after disk wiping

After a 7-pass US DoD 5220-22.M disk wipe (cluster tips too) on Windows XP SP-1 the System Restore Point I made before using Eraser was missing. My hard drive is not compressed. I still think Eraser is one of the best disk wipers there is. I also use iolo's System Shield Professional.
