    Eraser 6-rc3

I don't know if I have .NET 3.5 on my computer. I am currently using Version 5.86a. Does it require .NET 3.5? If I am required to have .NET 3.5 for v.6, is it a large download and install?

In reading this thread, I am wondering if Eraser 6 is going to require .NET 3.5. I run XP sp3.

[v5, v6] Why does it take so long to overwrite free space?

Re: Why does Eraser take so long to overwrite my free space ? Thanks for the explanation. I presume that after creating a Truecrypt file you can remove it in the future to provide needed space.

Thanks for the explanation. I have not tested this issue on my computer so cannot determine if it is a problem.

Wipe free space doesn't work correctly (I can recover files)

Is it expected that v. 6 will correct these problems? Thanks

    Slow erasing?

You are right--it was a network problem. I disconnected the network cord and eraser worked fine in erasing the items in the recycling bin--no hangups or slowdown. Thanks again for the suggestions.

    Directory Entries and MFT

BC Wipe provides the following feature: Wipe Empty Directory Entries. The file system records the names and attributes of files to a special area (so called 'directory entries' for FAT and MFT for NTFS). When a file is deleted the corresponding directory entry is modified by the file system...

Eraser 6 Public Beta (aka RC1)

Thanks, Joel. I downloaded the certificate: EraserCA.cer When I double clicked it, I got a message: "This file is invalid for use as the following: Security Certificate" I also notice that the file size is 0 kb.

    Slow erasing?

Thanks for the postings and your effort to help me to understand this. I am glad to hear that it is not Eraser that is the problem because I will primarily be using Eraser at home where there is no network. The problem occurred at work on a computer that is part of the corporate network...

    Slow erasing?

More information: I recall the files that took so long were identified by Eraser as DC89, DC90, DC91, etc. as it was erasing them, however, this was not the names on the files in the recycling bin and the sizes in the recycling bin were small, like under 1 mb.

    Slow erasing?

I do not know. They were cleared by Sweepi. If they are network files, would this slow it down? Is the time it is taking unusual from your experience? Will v.6 be faster in erasing? I could try the beta?

    Slow erasing?

Thanks for the ideas, Sven I tried it again today? I did cleaning of the computer with Sweepi which put about 120mb of files in the recycling bin. I moved quickly through about 85% of the files, then took about 30 mins to erase the remaining files. Eraser was set for 1 pass and pseudorandom...

    Recycle Bin context menu

Is the v6beta stable and safe to use? I am a novice computer user and don't want to take a chance of wrecking my computer. Approximately, how long does it usually take to go from beta to final release? If I decide to take a chance, where do I download the v6beta?

    Slow erasing?

I just started using Eraser recently. Initially, I used the right click to erase some files and it was immediate with a setting of 3 passes, pseudorandom, and cluster tips. Today, I used it to erase my recycling bin which was about 100mb with the same settings and it took about 15 minutes...
